IAPT Grants Programs for 2022
The International Association for Plant Taxonomy announces the 2022 round of our two competitive grants programs: 1) Small Collections Support, and 2) Research Support. Applications for both programs are submitted online through the IAPT website. See below for details. The application system opens to receive applications beginning 1 October 2021. Deadlines for the two competitions are provided below.
Small Collections Grants. IAPT provides competitive grants for the improvement and/or maintenance of botanical collections (herbaria) of algae, fungi, and/or plants. Collection improvements include projects involving digitization, processing a specimen backlog, shipping an endangered collection to another herbarium, or other similar tasks. In unique cases we will also consider requests for materials associated with mounting herbarium specimens. Applications are particularly welcome from herbaria in developing countries, but the grants are open to small herbaria worldwide. In general, a small herbarium is recognized as one with fewer than 100,000 specimens. Herbaria must be listed in Index Herbariorum (a free online listing of herbaria).

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: 30 November 2021
Research Grants. IAPT provides competitive grants to support research in plant systematics, with emphasis on funding students and young investigators in developing countries, but open to applicants world-wide. For guidance, candidates who obtained their Ph.D. degree more than 3 years ago will not be considered. The award should be preferably used for supporting travel to institutions, laboratory investigations, or fieldwork. We particularly encourage travel to visit major herbarium collections, and interactions with specialists in a particular group to build taxonomic linkages, spur future work, and build taxonomic capacity.

PROPOSAL DEADLINE: 28 February 2022
For both grant programs, the awarded projects will be announced on the IAPT web page and by e-mail to the applicants.
